Major Alex R. Garn is originally from Milford, Michigan. In 2001, Major Garn earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the United States Military Academy as an economics major and commissioned as an Infantry Officer. After completing the Infantry Officer Basic Course and Ranger School at Fort Benning, Georgia he reported to his first duty assignment at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii as a Light Infantry Platoon Leader in C Co, 2-27 IN, 25th ID. After serving 12 months in Hawaii, he was selected to serve in 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment at Hunter Army Airfield as a Ranger Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer in Alpha Company. Major Garn deployed to Afghanistan twice and once to Iraq with 1st Ranger Battalion in support of the Global War on Terrorism. In 2005, Major Garn returned to Fort Benning, Georgia to attend the Infantry Captain’s Career Course and Mechanized Leader’s Course. After the career course Major Garn reported to Fort Hood, Texas and was assigned to 1st Brigade, 4th ID. Major Garn deployed to Camp Taji, Iraq in 2006 with the Raider Brigade where he served as the assistant operations officer for 1-66 Armor and assumed command of Bayonet Company, 1-66 Armor. After redeployment and a subsequent 12 month training cycle, he deployed back to Iraq with Bayonet Company to Eastern Baghdad. He relinquished command in 2008 and was hired by 3d Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment where he served as the assistant operations officer until he assumed command of Bravo Company, 3d Battalion in September 2009. He deployed once to Iraq and three times to Afghanistan with 3dRanger Battalion in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Since 2001, Major Garn has deployed 9 times totaling 36 months overseas(4 x Iraq, 5 x Afghanistan). In August of 2011, Major Garn was assigned to the University of Michigan ROTC as an Assistant Professor of Military Assignment.

Major Garn’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with two oak leafs, Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf, Army Commendation Medal with two oak leafs, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal with two stars, Afghan Campaign Medal with two stars, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Army Meritorious Unit Award, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Ranger Tab, Senior Parachutist Badge, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, and German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge - Gold. He was also awarded the Order of Saint Maurice.

Major Garn resides in Beverly Hills, Michigan with his wife Sara. They have four children Talon age 8, Addison age 7, Payton age 3, and Skylar age 1.
