Major Evan Young is a recruiting officer and webmaster at the University of Michigan, Army Officer Education Program, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. A native of Little Rock, Arkansas, Major Young is a graduate of Northwestern State University of Louisiana with a Bachelors Degree in English. Major Young also earned a Masters Degree in Management Information Systems from Nova Southeastern University. After several years of enlisted service in the signal corps at Army Posts in Illeshiem, Germany, Fort Story, Virginia, and Fort Polk, Louisiana, Major Young received a commission from the U.S. Army in 1998 through a scholarship in the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps Green-to-Gold program. Immediately following the commission, Major Young was selected to serve as the Gold Bar Recruiter at her university. Following officer basic, Major Young held positions at the 369th Adjutant General Battalion as a company executive officer and at the Adjutant General School as a special project officer, planning and orchestrating the annual Adjutant General Corps Personnel Leader’s Meeting. Major Young was one of five officers in the Adjutant General Corp to be selected for the National Guard Reform Initiative. In addition to duties as an Adjutant General officer, Major Young was also a four-year member of the All Army Women’s Softball team. During service in the Hawaii Army National Guard, Major Young served as the C-E officer for the 29th Support Battalion, the Information Officer for the 29th Separate Infantry Brigade, Public Affairs Officer for the State Area Command, Hawaii Army National Guard, and Commander of the 117th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment. After transferring to the United States Army Reserves, Major Young served as the Broadcast Officer for the 209th Broadcast Public Affairs Detachment in Rome, Georgia. In her civilian occupation, Major Young was a web developer for Clayton Homes Incorporated in Maryville, Tennessee. In 2008, Major Young was picked up for the Active Guard Reserve program and served as a media officer at NORAD and USNORTHCOM, Peterson Air Force Base, working in the Public Affairs’ Operations Division. Major Young is a graduate of the Broadcast Management Course, Public Affairs Officer Qualification Course, Adjutant General Captain’s Career Course, and Adjutant General Officer Basic Course. Major Young was a member of the commandant’s list while attending the Adjutant General Corp Officer Basic Course. Awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal (2), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and the Army Achievement Medal (3 awards), Alaska Community Service Medal.
