Lieutenant Colonel Greg Povenski
LTC Povenski is a native of Quakertown, Pennsylvania. He
initially enlisted in the United States Army as a 31C, Single Channel Radio
Operator. His first assignment was to the 18th Field Artillery Brigade
(Airborne) at Fort Bragg, NC. He is a graduate of Temple University, with a
B.A in Communications, and was commissioned as a Field Artillery officer
through the ROTC program.
Upon completion of Field Artillery Officers
Basic Course LTC Povenski was assigned to 4th Battalion, 27th Field Artillery
in Baumholder, Germany. While in 4/27 FA he served as a Fire Support Officer,
Assistant S-3, and the Recon and Survey Platoon Leader. LTC Povenski also
deployed to Kosovo as part of ISAF 2B in support of KFOR.
In October of 2003 LTC Povenski successfully completed the Special Forces Officer
Qualification Course, and was subsequently assigned to 3rd Battalion, 7th
Special Forces Group (Airborne) where he served as the Battalion Adjutant,
Bravo Company Executive Officer, and Commander of Special Forces Operational
Detachment-Alpha 784 (MFF). While assigned to 7th Group LTC Povenski deployed
to Bogota and Saravena Colombia, and Tarin Kowt Afghanistan in support of OEF
VIII. After serving in 7th Special Forces Group LTC Povenksi was assigned as
the Officers Assignment Manager for the United States Army Special Operations
Command. His next assignment was as a Cadre Team Leader for Phase V (Robin
Sage) in the Special Forces Qualification Course. While assigned to
USAJFKSWCS he deployed to OIF where he served as the Executive Officer for the
Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service Military Transition Team in Baghdad.
In 2010 he attended the Naval War College where he received a Masters Degree in
National Security and Strategic Studies. Following the Naval War College he
was assigned to the United States Army Special Forces Command where he served
in the training Division as the Director of the Readiness Branch. In June of
2011 he reported to 5th Special Forces Group.
While in 5th Special Forces
Group he served as an S-3 Plans Officer and as the Commander of C Company, 4th
Battalion. While in 5th Special Forces Group he deployed to Iraq to Support
Operation New Dawn as the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force Liaison
Officer to United States Forces Iraq and with his AOB to Hamat Lebanon.
Povenski’s most recent assignment was as the Commander of the United States
Army Military Free Fall School in Yuma, AZ. LTC Povenski is a graduate of
Basic Combat Training, Advanced Individual Training, Airborne School, Field
Artillery Officer Basic Course, Infantry Captains Career Course, CAS3, The
Naval War College, Special Forces Qualification Course, SERE school, Military
Freefall Parachutist course, Advanced Airborne School, Military Freefall
Jumpmaster course, and the Advanced Military Free Fall Course (MFF-I 784).
His awards and decorations include, the Bronze Star Medal, Joint Service
Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2 OLC), Army Commendation Medal
(2 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (2 OLC), National Defense Service Medal,
Kosovo Campaign Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global
War on Terrorism Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Army
Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, the NATO Medal, Combat Infantrymen
