School of Kinesiology partnership

At the University of Michigan, Army ROTC cadets benefit from a unique collaboration with the School of Kinesiology through an independent study that directly supports their physical development and performance. This partnership pairs cadets with Kinesiology students who apply exercise science principles to create customized training plans based on the Army’s Holistic Health and Fitness (H2F) framework.

Cadets receive personalized coaching focused on strength, endurance, injury prevention, and overall readiness. At the same time, Kinesiology students gain hands-on experience in leadership, program design, and performance evaluation—all within a military training context. It’s a win-win that reflects the kind of innovative, cross-disciplinary learning Michigan is known for.

This is more than a workout plan—it’s a leadership laboratory where cadets improve physically while helping others grow professionally. Opportunities like this don’t exist anywhere else, and they demonstrate how Michigan ROTC is woven into the broader university experience, setting our cadets apart from their peers across the country.
