Military Science
Military science class (or MILSCI for short) provides the foundational military training to prepare Cadets for their careers as leaders in the United States Army. Cadets begin by building a strong foundation in essential military skills, leadership theories, and personal discipline. As they advance, the focus shifts to mastering small-unit tactics and applying their knowledge in practical leadership roles during field training exercises, ultimately preparing Cadets to lead and carry the responsibilities of a military officer upon graduation.

Leadership Lab at the University of Michigan
A Four-Year Progression of Leader Development
At the University of Michigan, Wolverine Battalion Army ROTC, Leadership Lab is more than a weekly training event it is the cornerstone of experiential learning and a defining feature of our program. This is where future Army officers are forged through practical, progressive, and purpose-driven leadership development. Every Thursday, cadets step out of the classroom and into the field to put leadership theory and soldier skills into action, preparing them to lead with competence, character, and commitment.
Our program prides itself on the depth and quality of this experience. We don’t just train cadets to meet the standard; we develop leaders of distinction who represent the best of the University of Michigan. That’s not a slogan. That’s our standard. Because if we’re going to be the Leaders and Best, we wouldn’t do it any other way.
