For over six years, the University of Michigan Army ROTC program has partnered with the Sandusky County Sportsmen’s Club to offer cadets a one-of-a-kind experience focused on firearms education and military history. This annual event gives cadets the opportunity to handle and fire a wide variety of weapons from different countries, time periods, and military eras—something few ROTC programs in the country provide.
Beyond marksmanship, cadets gain a deeper understanding of the evolution of firearms, their tactical uses, and how weapon systems have shaped military operations over time. The experience enhances technical knowledge, safety awareness, and appreciation for the role of weapons in both historical and modern contexts.
It’s more than just a range day—it’s a hands-on, immersive opportunity that brings classroom instruction to life. This partnership is a reflection of how Michigan ROTC invests in meaningful, real-world training that prepares cadets to be confident, informed, and capable future officers. It’s another example of how our program goes beyond the standard to deliver an ROTC experience you won’t find anywhere else.
